I was determined to get a Bald Guys Pie. So, popular, so delicious… so elusive. Every time I tried, I arrived at their recognizably red food truck moments too late. Foiled again and again, I needed a foolproof plan.
Destination: Copper Fox Distillery on Friday night, The Bald Guy’s regular Friday hangout.
Strategy #1: Set appointment reminder on phone.
Strategy #2: Set alert for one hour before departure.
The game was afoot.
Arriving at 5:45, the food truck was in the parking lot, lights on and the scent of sausage wafting into the night. All signs pointed to success.
We ordered a traditional Margherita and a chicken and corn pizza (something a little different), and a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie. While we waited for our pizzas, we enjoyed an old fashioned from the Copper Fox Distillery’s courtyard bar and a gin & tonic. They may not be a traditional beverages to pair with a pizza, but hey, when at Copper Fox… And the smokey bourbon and sweet cherry set just the right tone on this hot summer evening.
The Bald Guy Pies’ pizzas are in fact delicious and well worth the wait. Made with fresh ingredients like tomatoes, basil and really flavorful cheese, it is easy to see why people follow their food truck all over the 757.
Ready for a Bald Guys Pie? Plan ahead. Check the day’s location on their Instagram or Facebook page and set a reminder so that you aren’t distracted from your mission.
Or, leave destiny to chance and when you spot their food truck out on the town, follow it to whenever it is headed. Their destination is right on the back and you can always be sure, wherever they’re going, its going to be delicious.
