Par for the Course at Richmond’s Hotel Greene

Down an unassuming city street in Richmond’s business district, if you aren’t paying attention, you just might miss it. But, do pay attention, and, don’t miss Hotel Greene, the funkiest and most fun mini-golf experience of your life.

Designed to evoke a modern take on 1920s high fashion, Hotel Greene is one of Richmond’s newest hot spots inside what appears to be an old hotel.

The inspiration behind Richmond’s Hotel Greene is an actual Hotel Greene dating back to 1905 in Europe. Built on a dream of luxury and oppulence, in its hey day the original Hotel Green hosted foreign dignitaries and celebrities, though it’s early proprietor Emil Gorski was forced into bankruptcy. Rumored to have made his way to the U.S., in the early days of America’s car culture, Gorski is thought to have started a chain of motels located next to mini golf courses. His dream lived on.

Today, on Richmond’s Franklin Street, a small sign above the double doors of Hotel Greene is the only indication that you’ve arrived. Part speakeasy, part mini-golf, Richmond’s Hotel Greene is a mix of everything beautiful and a little bit curious with whimsy around every turn. Are you actually putting through the subway tiled walls of a turn of the century Victorian spa? Is that long hallway of hotel room doors as long as it appears or is it just an optical illusion?

While putting, laughing and wondering “How did they create this?” you can enjoy an adult beverage from Hotel Greene’s extensive cocktail menu in the lobby bar as well as snacks and sandwiches before and after your game. Hotel Greene enforces a strict 21+ after 5pm and though younger folks can play earlier in the day, this isn’t your usual mini-golf course. There are no water hazards or windmills. Just putting onto what appears to be pool tables, and through what appears to be bedrooms and bathrooms.

Hotel Greene offers a sensory overload experience like none other. You won’t want to miss it. Look up when you are walking down the 500 block of Franklin Street. Find the sign with the hotel porter and check in. Hotel Greene looks forward to welcoming you.
